In this day in age, there are many people who are self-absorbed and only care about themselves. They never take a moment to look around and see the people around them. If there is one thing in the world that I could change to make it a more caring place I would require everyone to at least be involved in some form of community service. Doing a community service project for someone else in need can open one’s eyes to see that not everything is as good as it seems. There are people struggling and barely making it while others are oblivious to the world outside of their own. Community service will bring awareness and solve problems in the world. There are three main benefits of doing community service including health, community and personal development benefits.

Technology and social media play a big part in why people are so disconnected from the world and the people around them. They are increasingly worried about how many followers they have, how they look in this picture and that picture, and they worry about how many likes they get on it. We are overwhelmingly caught up in our own lives, and we forget to look around and see others around us. We never know what other people are going through, and if they need help. On social media, it appears that natural disasters happen more frequently which increases the amount of people who are in need; however, it is easily overlooked in our egocentric society.

Moreover, it has been found by many studies that volunteering doesn’t just help the mind, but it is also good for the body. By focusing on other problems besides your own, it reduces stress and improves one’s outlook on life. The community benefits because it allows students and adults to be directly involved in the community that they live in. It teaches responsibility to those who serve and gives younger children a good role model to look up to. Volunteers also do more work and solve more problems than what we give them credit for. They are the reason why everything, whatever service they perform, is a little better than it was before.

Those who are involved in community service learn the struggles and hard times that other people go through. Community service would make a caring impact because it shows the people who are going to benefit from the service that there is someone who would be there for them and willing to work to help them out. Also, community service brings people together.  People learn many skills such as leadership skills, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. When they communicate and work together, they can make a difference in someone’s life. Instead of worrying about ourselves all the time, it would be nice to worry and support someone else for a change. I know that some people may not want to do community service and volunteer and that’s alright. But those who do will help bring that change into making our world a more caring place.
