Unified Caring Association provided emotional support tools as part of Rez Refuge’s Youth Leadership Program. The recipients shared with us that the Moonbeam and Sunbuddy Feeling Packs opened up a world of understanding of emotions that brought a new awareness to the children and their parents.

After sitting with her two children, one parent shared, “it was very enlightening and as a parent I never really knew that my children had experienced most of these feelings. It was nice to talk about it. I really enjoyed the quality time, especially with my oldest son because he is growing up and I want him to be able to recognize his feelings and how to deal with certain emotions that may arise in his life.”

Rez Refuge is a non-profit organization founded in 2007 to provide a refuge for Navaho community members in Fort Defiance, Arizona.  What began as one person’s dream to support young people, is now an organization run by a dedicated team working to provide a refuge where community members could go to gain the knowledge needed to succeed in life.

Today, the organization offers curriculum-based programs and activities to Navajo young adults as well as those from surrounding areas. The focus is on building support and solutions to the issues faced by the Native American communities.  Counseling programs, educational courses and recreational activities are geared toward establishing cultural identity, self-sufficiency, and community responsibility. UCA will continue to sponsor projects with RezRefuge to help the children and families under their care.
