In 2021 Humanity for Horses faced an enormous crisis. Their sanctuary which housed over 600 rescued animals became endangered from wildfires and the encroaching pot grower industry.
The cost of moving all those precious souls was enormous. Most importantly, a strong and efficient water system for animal care, sanctuary operations and fire protection was needed. Unified Caring Association (UCA) stepped up to co-sponsor this project. And thanks to focused efforts and others who also stepped in to help, Humanity for Horses, was able to accomplish their goal. All the animals were safely moved to their new home in record breaking time.
Today, Humanity for Horses still cares for over 600 animals who are now safe from fire and other challenging circumstances. Their hospital now has a regulated temperature medical room, a warm shower for the horses and much better hospital quarters. Water flows to every pasture and paddock. Because of the move to an entirely new facility, they have more indoor room to rescue little critters such as rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas and birds; plus, a much safer outdoor space for ducks, geese and guinea hens.
From Humanity for Horses: “Working with horses is a soul gift to the human that truly cannot be described. They are such magnificent creatures. They are extremely emotional and extremely forgiving and grateful. They definitely seem to know who saved them. Humbly, we state that we have made a difference… not enough though. There is more to do in the racing, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. Many poor souls have been brutally treated in these three places.”
The team at Humanity for Horses considers themselves among the luckiest people on the planet to work with these astounding beings every day. To know that these animals will never be abused or abandoned again is truly a gift for each team member.
