Sometimes, the world can be a terrifying place.  Everyone is different and their situations all are unique. This fact alone can cause all people to feel unwanted, insecure, and frightened.  As a high school student, I see people every day struggling with these feelings. High schoolers are working hourly to discover who they wish to become. What they wish to accomplish. With whom they wish to associate. There are several endeavors I would want to accomplish to make the world a more caring place. However, if I had to choose just one thing, I would want every person in this world to feel that they can be themselves.  Letting people know that you will be there for them no matter who they are is majorly impactful. People are comforted when they enjoy strong relationships with others.

Why would I choose “showing the real you” out of all the other possibilities? Well, for starters, I know how it feels to feel like you can be one person with some people, but then around other people, you might feel the need to be another person. Neither of which is necessarily the real you. To some people, showing the real you is very difficult. It is something everyone struggles with, some just struggle with it more than others. Many people in today’s world put up walls around their friends so they don’t get judged.  When you don’t surround yourself with people who love and care about you, you are more likely to not have the best attitude about yourself. If you feel like you can’t be yourself around friends either, then to put it simply, you need to find new friends. If people were more open to others and didn’t judge people on the color of hair they have, or a tattoo, or even something as simple as a piercing, it would change the world in the most drastic way.  By opening up our minds to new things, we accept the way people are, and by doing that, we no longer have to hide who we are from our peers. We set ourselves free from insecurities. It would also solve one of the world’s largest problems, bullying.  That is one of the biggest reasons people hide who they truly are.  The fear of being bullied holds people back from their potential as well as their hopes and dreams.  By never being yourself, you never learn who you truly are. By standing up for what you believe in and your personality speaks volumes and can help you find out who you are deep down.  By letting people in, you are vulnerable, which is another reason people hide who they really are—myself included.  You let your guard down, which can allow you to be hurt. If people never felt the need to hide who they were, we would never have to worry about being hurt by others because we would have accepted the fact that everyone is different in their own, unique way.

If I could change one thing in the world to make it a more caring place, I would want to change how people express themselves around others.  Never stop showing the world the real you. You are valuable and important. Your opinions count. Your goals are critical to the overall cause of American progress. Everyone is different in their own way and you should be proud of who you are, inside and out.  Showing people who you really are can help solve problems like bullying. You can take help to take away the hurt that the world throws at each person. Show the world who you are!
