As lockdowns became a global reality during the pandemic, seniors became more secluded and disconnected in larger numbers. In normal times, isolation was already a serious challenge for the elderly among our seniors. Whether homebound or in a care facility, the need for love and care outreach increased exponentially. Our sponsored non-profit organization, Love for Our Elders, was exactly the right team in the right place at the right time to help spread love and care.

In their Letters of Love program, anyone can write a letter, or create a greeting card, or pen a note anonymously to a senior. The anonymous letters sent to the non-profit organization jumped in volume quickly. The need and solution for sending love and care struck a heart string. At one point, we heard there were over 600 letters a day arriving to Love for Our Elders Post Office Box. Every letter must be read to make sure guidelines are met, and then it can be sent to an elder. Creating social distance ways for reviewing and packaging the letters wasn’t going to stop them. UCA stepped up to sponsor getting love letters out to seniors quickly. And the team did it!

In the month of May 2020 alone, Love for the Elderly sent 14,234 letters of love to 233 senior communities in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada. Letters continue to flow every month into and then out to the hands of appreciative and emotional elder recipients. UCA was proud to sponsor the Letters of Love Program. The impact has continued to grow. In the month of February 2021, over 10,000 letters were received and then sent out to senior communities in the U.S. as a part of the National Letter to an Elder Day event that UCA co-sponsored. Our sponsorship helped to inaugurate the continuation of National Letter to an Elder Day every February 26th for years to come.

As a UCA member, you are making it possible to help Children, Animals, Reforestation and the Elderly through our C.A.R.E. Projects. Thank you for being a part of moving caring forward.
