While assisting seniors in a local community, UCA uncovered a critical need to support repairing and rebuilding homes with Habitat for Humanity.  A major wild fire had destroyed not only a significant portion of a Siskiyou County, California community, but also business and nonprofit organization facilities as well.

Among the losses was the warehouse storing tools and building materials donated to Habitat for Humanity.  Among the projects planned before the fire were those helping homebound seniors stay in their homes through accessibility, energy efficiency and upkeep repairs.  The building and all materials were a complete loss.

With ingenuity and commitment, the leaders of the local Habitat for Humanity chapter secured a replacement warehouse. Unfortunately, the roof of the building was old and leaking. It was nearly impossible to store building materials safely. Through a sponsorship from UCA, a team of contractors partnered with UCA to repair and replace the roof in order to get the building projects desperately needed back on track.  Just in time!  Work to prepare many for the winter had to get started.
